Barcode Scanner

There are three types of barcode scanners:

1D LASER SCANNER

1D LINEAR IMAGER

2D AREA IMAGER

1D LASER SCANNER

This is the most commonly used scanner on the market. The mechanism of this scanner is based on red diode laser reading on the reflection of black and white gaps on barcode. This device can only read 1D barcode but the scan range varies on the brands. Some brands offer rugged and long range up to 45 feet (sYMBOL SE1524ER). They normally comes with wired or wireless options depending on the usage. It is the most economically options for starters.

1D LINEAR IMAGER

The mechanism of the device is just like the name where it takes an image of the barcode and analyses it to derive informations from the scanned 1D barcode. This technique allows us to read more difficult-to-read barcodes (scratches, low contrast or extreme perspective) which is normally unreadable on most laser scanners. These linear imagers are increasing their read ranges and reducing their costs to compete with the laser scanners.

2D AREA IMAGER

These 2D imagers uses the same mechanism which capture an image to analyse but they can generally scan all types of barcode including 1D, 2D, stacked or multiple barcodes. The orientation or condition of barcode reading does not matter where you can scan barcode in any directions, curved surfaces, noisy background, even lighting, poor focus or even monitor/phone screen. The aggressive scanning mode made it feasible to be used in heavy industrial environment where omnidirectional, multiple, extreme perspective, damaged code reading are needed.

Handheld

These are the most commonly used scanner type because of their simplicity. They are normally available in wired or wireless options. They are available in RS232 (serial), USB, PS/2. Motorola LS2208 is our top seller based on their simplicity and affordability.

Stationary

These are the commercially used scanners to be deployed on wall or table of checkout counters in supermarket/retailers. They can be combined with weigher for POS systems check out.

Fixed mount

These are heavy industrial scanners that allows you to scan barcodes in a fast and high volume manufacturing area such as factory, logistic or automation industry.

Mobile PDA

These scanners are used mainly for asset tracking and inventory management where mobile computing is more useful where you can store multiple informations in the internal memory then copy it to a PC when available or share it through WIFI or network to other devices.
